35th Shim Sa & Weapons Training Clinic

I am happy to announce South Hills Karate Academy’s 35th Promotion Shim Sa (Testing).
The 35th Promotion Testing will take place on Saturday March 23rd. This test will be held at the main location.

  • Adult Testing & Children Testing: 12:30PM Start Time

We will be testing both Children and Adult Students at the same time. I anticipate the Shim Sa will conclude no later than 2:30PM.

The 35th Shim Sa testing list below will be posted at the school. The list is based on current attendance and student progression. If your name does not appear on the list and you feel you are eligible for testing please see Master Garbowsky. Students who have had sparse attendance should work with Master Garbowsky to assure that they can become eligible to test! Students whose name appears on the testing list will be expected to attend at minimum two classes per week in order to properly prepare for the test.

Please pick up a copy of the test form during class. The test form must be filled out completely and must be turned in by Thursday, March 21st. The testing fee is $50.00. If you need help filling out the form, please see Master Garbowsky. In addition, all students are expected to have on their Dobalks a South Hills Karate Academy School Patch. Additionally, please make every attempt to join the Independent Tang Soo Do Association. Please see Master Garbowsky or Mr. Jeff Weir directly regarding the importance of being a member of the Association.

In order to help all students prepare we will be practicing testing material at all classes leading up to the test. Be sure to attend as many classes as possible!

ITA Spring Weapons Clinic

We will be hosting a Weapons Training Clinic on March 16th from 12:30PM to 2:30PM. This two hour clinic will be taught by Master George Klinedinst 6th Dan from the United Tang Soo Do Alliance (UTA) Hershey, PA. Master Klinedinst will be conducting an introductory Modern Arnis clinic. Modern Arnis is the system of Fiiipino martial arts founded by the late Remy Presas. It is derived principally from the traditional style of the Bolo (knife) and the stick-dueling art of Eskrima, with influences from other Filipino and Japanese martial arts.

I am also happy to let you know this clinic is open to all belt levels and students!

Originally this clinic was to be open only to Yu Dan Ja (Bkack Belts). However, the ITA Technical Advisory Committee suggested to me that all of our students would benefit! You will also have the opportunity to train along side our Yu Dan Ja who will be participating in this clinic as part of their Recertification Testing. Please note the information below:

Dan Recertification Testing

Impromptu Yu Dan Ja Training Session: I will be holding an hour long training session this upcoming Sunday (2/17) from 12:30 - 1:30PM. This training session is to provide Yu Dan Ja with the opportunity to review their requirements with me, refresh their knowledge and to help to prepare for the recertification testing. Additionally we will have an opportunity to get together afterwords for lunch!

Below is a summary of the dates and times and you will find a complete itinerary and testing list here. You will find all of the information that you will need to help you prepare for the upcoming event. I also suggest that you review your requirements which can be found by clicking here. Please pick up a copy of the Dan Recertifcation Testing form at the front desk or by clicking here.

Dates and Times
The upcoming event will be held on two days:

Thursday, March 14th from 6:00PM – 8:30PM
Saturday, March 16th from 9:30AM – 11:30AM

With respect to the Dan Re certification Testing and Training there will be no regular classes on the above mentioned days, however, I encourage all students to come and observe and learn by watching our Dan members train and test in front of their peers and seniors. The online calendar has been updated.

Additionally, I wish to ad that there are no exceptions with regards to participation on both days. You must participate both days in order to be considered for promotion to your next re certification ranking. This is an opportunity for all of our Dans to get together, train and sweat together over a two day period. I highly suggest that you make arrangements to be a part of this Spring Re certification Testing! If there are any questions or issue regarding this matter, please see me directly.

If you have to submit a written essay, please submit the essay via a written electronic document (Word, Pages, or Google Docs) a week before the testing.
